acne Archives

Acne appears for most of us at one point or another in our lives.  What makes it difficult to bear for the long term, however, is when it not only fills you with lesions, but leaves you with scars that can last you a lifetime.  Fortunately, acne scar treatments are available that can leave you clear from those blemishes that look to stay permanently on your skin.

What exactly causes acne scars?  There are various things, including:

Genetics. Some people, with bad skin types, simply scar easier than others.

Living Conditions. If your living conditions are largely unhygienic, you may suffer through acne scars frequently as a result.

Skin lightening creams are often used as acne scar treatments.  Since they can facilitate darkness reduction in specific spots, you can easily apply it over an area and have it cleared in just a short time.  Try a standard-grade skin lightening cream that’s intended to leave you with a lighter complexion and use it as an acne scar treatment.

Chemical peels are also frequently employed as acne scar treatments.  Since they exfoliate the surface layers of the skin, the scar usually goes along with the peel.  For deeper scars, you can ask your dermatologist for harsher laser and chemical peels to shave off several layers of scarring.

Natural Acne Skin Treatments

Acne skin treatments don’t just come in tubes and jars.  In fact, before even trying any topical medication, most skin experts will advise you to look towards natural lifestyle changes that will help keep the breakouts at bay.

A lifestyle change as your acne skin treatment?  While not as convincing as a breakthrough “antibacterial acne wonder drug,” most people will actually find their acne problems minimized when creating these changes in their everyday lives.

1. Exercise

Exercise will help your body’s circulation, encouraging healthy blood flow to the skin, apart from helping eliminate many types of toxins in your body.

2. Healthy Diet

A healthy diet, with sufficient servings of fruits and vegetables daily, can create wonders on your complexion.  Many fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants, which help in eliminating skin damage as well as encourage skin repair.

3. Proper Cleansing

While regular washing of the skin is important, it needs to  be done with as gentle a cleanser as you can find.  Harsh acne skin treatments, in any form, can wreak havoc on acne-prone skin, regardless of what its claims are.  Once or twice a week, you may also use an exfoliating face scrub to help rid your skin of dead skin cells.

One of the most popular names in natural skin care products, Jason Cosmetics receives some of our highest recommendations for acne treatments.  Their line currently consists of four anti-acne products that we believe are among the best acne sufferers can hope to use in their daily skin care regimen.

My favorite is the Jason Cosmetics Clean Start Cleanser, an oil-free and non-comedogenic foaming cleanser that you can apply to your face without worries of harsh detergents wreaking havoc on your skin.  It’s ingredients include Green Tea Extract and Deep Sea Minerals, leaving it packed with heavy amounts of antioxidants as well as skin rejuvenating properties.

A product I recommend for those who spend inordinate in social functions is the Jason Cosmetics Acne Control Roll-On, which is both easy-to-apply and highly effective, fitted with antiseptic, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory capabilities.   It’s quick-drying too so you’ll barely notice it after just a few seconds.

Jason Cosmetics’ Acne Control Cleansing Pads is a great product for those engaged in many outdoor activities, leaving their skin prime target for dirt and irritants.  It is especially useful for individuals with oily skin, being a gentle oil remover with natural antioxidant and hydroxy acid ingredients.

Lastly, the Jason Cosmetics Alpha Hydroxy Gel is the real secret weapon, which combines exfoliating effects with anti-bacterial treatment.  Daily use will literally leave your skin amazingly soft and clear.

Most acne-healing clear skin treatment products work their magic at night, drying pimples and working on your skin to prevent breakouts and excess oil. However, daytime is really when you need the most protection, while you’re out and living your day-to-day responsibilities, amidst the sun and dust every time you step out the door.

Astringents and cleansers, of course, can be applied at any time during the day to help wash off excess oil and dirt that make their way to your skin. That should help, especially when you find your face oily throughout the day, paving the way for irritants to make their way to your skin. However, too much washing and cleansing can lead to excessive removal of oil, which can make matters worse. Too much of it can induce your skin to produce even more sebum, leaving it more oily and potentially clogging pores.

Lately, there have been a growing number of clear skin treatment products intended for use in the daytime. Brands like the Kinerase Clear Skin Treatment Serum can be applied lightly and worn throughout the day. Colorless on the skin, they can be used under makeup and moisturizers, to continue working on your blemishes even at the height of your daily activities.

Why confine yourself to a night time acne regimen when you can enjoy clear skin treatment throughout the day?

Prescription Acne Treatments

Some acne will go away with just a regular helping of benzoyl peroxide and a daily cleansing regimen.  Others will not.  For acne sufferers who are having a hard time from the condition, a trip to the dermatologist who will likely prescribe harsher treatments should turn up the best results.  If you’re thinking of paying the local skin doctor a visit and are curious what they may end up recommending for you, the following acne treatments are usually at the top of the list.

Accutane

To this day, it is the most prescribed acne medication among dermatologists.  It is potent and has been proven effective across many hard-to-treat acne cases. However, Accutane does not perform its healing properties without drawbacks.  Many who take the medication end up feeling ill to varying degrees, from simple lightheadedness to full-blown depression.  Other side effects attributed to long-term use of Accutane include liver damage, birth defects and a whole host of other ailments.  Due to dangers surrounding its use, Accutane can only be taken under a doctor’s supervision.

Retinoid

A variant of vitamin A, retinoid (as opposed to its OTC sister, retinol) is often prescribed for large acne lesions.  While effective, it is often harsh and drying and can lead to skin complications if not used under doctor’s supervision.

Light Wave Therapy

For really persistent cases of acne where topical and oral medications failed to work, patients may be put through a light wave therapy.  Under this acne treatment, doctors will use a high-intensity blue light on existing lesions.  It is intended for mild to moderate cases of acne that persists through regular medication but is not likely to be used for severe cases.
